Wanda Welbourn

Artist Statement

“Somehow my parents found themselves in McCloud, married, and had me and my sister.  They were completely opposite of each other so sis and I had the best of both.  Completely supporting, hardworking, full of adventure and play.  When you live in a place of power and beauty, with that kind of support system, how can you not grow up wanting to create.  We were never told, ‘No, you can’t.’  We were told, ‘Do your best.’
.
I have lived in Siskiyou County most of my life with only a few years away as a questing young adult.  Here, four seasons offer new platforms for visual arts.  The rhythm of those seasons gives a fine tempo for poetry or fiber arts. My largest piece so far is an 18 ft. diameter tipi, our summer guest room.
How can you go wrong with the mountain in your back yard and a camera that never argues, just says ‘Click, click, click!’”
