Sherry L. Ackerman

I call my work Art of the Archetypes.

I am interested in art brut, finding it transformational, reflective, explorative and self-revealing. Contemplation of the archetypes provides a lens through which I have an opportunity to experience liberation from narrowly individual, egoistic I-ness.

My work asks viewers to de-construct every assumption that they have ever held…to ask ‘Why?’ and to become okay with not-knowing.

I urge the viewer to suspend the conscious mind and let the unconscious surface…allowing the archetypes to arise…in a journey to liberation from societal conditioning, externally legislated morality and normative thinking.

I believe that getting beyond one’s ideas…and discovering the context of one’s own thinking…is liberating.
