Ralph Starritt
Ralph was born and educated in California. He earned an Associate of Arts degree from Shasta Community College in Redding, CA, and went on to study at the Academy of Arts in San Francisco where he focused on illustration,
design, sculpture, cartooning and photography. He studied mechanics at the Oregon Institute of Technology where he learned to weld and use many metals. It turned out to be a turning point when the Jaycees of Yreka commissioned him to create “The Miner”, in downtown Yreka, CA, from scrap metal. This brought new recognition to Ralph’s art.
Ralph is currently active in his own growing business in Yreka. Starritt Studio has become well known for producing unique metal sculptures, fine etched glass, and routed redwood signs with a fine art flair by combining hand carved and painted illustrations. Ralph’s first love is sculpting in metal because it produces a permanent piece of art as well as being a very personal form of self expression. Each piece has its own texture, shade and attitude, combined to create its own visual experience. Ralph has several sculptures all over the county, including The Cow on Interstate 5, The Horse and Rider on Main Street in Montague, 2 Horses and a Rider in Etna, 3 Indians in Indian Park, and The Fireman and the Dog on Miner Street at the Yreka Firehouse, not to mention numerous sculptures and signs throughout the Northwest.
Ralph was recipient of the Siskiyou Arts Council’s Achievement award in June of 2010.
