Siskiyou Arts Council January ARTS E-Newsletter

Friends of the Arts
The Siskiyou Arts Council is welcoming in the New Year with a bag full of changes that will enable SAC to expand its services and community outreach in the County.   Over the last four years, SAC has grown from a $40k a year non-profit organization to $150k.  Over the next two years we expect go beyond the $200k mark.  Along with this growth will come new and expanded services to Schools, Artists, Patrons of the Arts and the Community.

In preparation for taking SAC to the next level, last November SAC’s management team split the Executive Director position into two.  Within the split, a new position has been created titled The Director of Operations (AKA Operations Manager).  In general, the Director of Operations will be responsible for managing the Gallery and Cultural Center, SAC’s Direct Projects and Grants, the member and volunteer base, Board of Director meetings and obligations, and all other day-to-day business activity.  The redefined Executive Director position will be responsible for community outreach, event planning, fiscal sponsorship recruitment, funding and donations, and grant research and proposal preparation.  Application reviews for the Director of Operations positions are underway and we expect to have the position filled by early February.

SAC’s long term Executive Director, Lauri Sturdivant, has decided to leave SAC and move on.  SAC appreciates the dedication, innovation and commitment that Lauri has contributed over the years in making the Arts standout and a vital element in Siskiyou County.  Lauri will be missed and we wish her well in her future endeavors.

The new position description for Executive Director Position will be advertised this month, application packages will be accepted in February and March.  We are planning to have a new Executive Director in place in the April/May timeframe.  If you are interested in receiving an application package for the position, please email your request with contact information to siskiyouarts@yahoo.com, or you can pick one up at the Gallery after the 15th of January.

SAC’s Grants and Gifts program has awarded its semi-annual Achievement Award to Paula Reynolds for her continuous giving back to the community in the Arts.  In the words of Marie-Jose Wells of the Mount Shasta Chamber, “she is a model for volunteering, giving, and demonstrating how one person can have a big impact on our lives”.  Congratulations Paula, and thank you so much for the work that you do while donating your time and talent in the community.  Paula received $1,000 in recognition of her work.

The SAC Gallery’s Mountain Arts Co-op (MAC) is looking for new members.  For those of you that are new to SAC, MAC is a co-op of artists that volunteer, show and sell their work at the Gallery.  Interested artists can pickup an application at the Gallery or email siskiyouarts@yahoo.com.
