Myr Skipper
Artist’s Statement
Myr Skipper is a self-taught artist who enjoyed an apprenticeship with John Steptoe in NYC, 1977. Since that time, she has developed – through experimentation – a unique layering technique using acrylic, water and various mediums.
The images in Myr’s paintings evolve from a thought imbued with emotional and spiritual power. She appreciates the energetic quality of colors, the connectedness of all that is on Earth and in the Cosmos, the beauty of physical forms and the non-visable energies in continual processes of creation.
When a viewer asks Myr to define the meaning of a painting, she tells them, “You decide.” One collector, who has five of Myr’s paintings, told a friend “You have to go into it rather than just look at it. So be it.”
“In order to learn something radically new, we need to first imagine it. Who then creates the new images that preside abstract ideas and descriptive language? It is the artist.” –Leonard Schlarn, ART and PHYSICS, Parallel Visions in Space, Time and Light
