Kate Yorke

Artist Statement

“I have thought of myself as an artist since a very early age when I would sit in a corner and draw during family gatherings. Art became my communication with the world. As the years passed, I remained true to my artistic vision, and received both a Bachelors and a Masters degree in art. Since then, I have been both a teacher and an artist, and now paint mostly for my own enjoyment, although I am delighted when others love my work also.

Over the last 10 years, I have been traveling back and forth to Costa Rica, and now spend my winters there. Needless to say, the subject matter of my most recent work is the tropics. I am attracted to the intimate, microcosmic views as well as to the scenes that are more macroscopic. I might choose to paint the designs created by light falling on the inside of an orchid, or the patterns I see when I step back and take a larger point of view.”
