Joan Lucas

Choreographer and artistic director of the Mount Shasta Senior Theater, former Executive Director of Siskiyou Arts Council, and professional dancer and dance teacher Joan Lucas left us on September 1, 2009.

Obituary

She was a professional dancer, choreographer and director most of her life.  She danced on Broadway, in television and in Singing In The Rain with Gene Kelly.  Joan taught ballet, tap and jazz at College of the Siskiyous for four years and was choreographer for ten years.

Joan was a board member of Siskiyou Arts Council for ten years.

In 2006, Joan created the Mount Shasta Senior Theatre which was accepted at COS in their LifeLong Learning Program.  As Joan said, “I was definitely a senior citizen and I became interested in the possibilities of doing shows with that population.  After attending a conference on Senior Theater in St. Louis, I came back very enthusiastic about teaching theater disciplines and creating shows in Siskiyou County.”
