Jennifer Pentrack

Artist’s Statement

“Midway through my life I have had the unexpected pleasure of renewing my acquaintance with the world of art.  Of particular delight to me has been the discovery of printmaking:  experiencing the interactions of ink on paper and the magic of “pulling a print.”  My work has evolved from an academic background in the biological sciences combined with a love of the outdoors.  With a basic foundation and on-going exploration of classic artistic fundamentals, I also have been inspired by the varied works of such artists as Mary Cassat, James J. Audubon, Henry Moore, James Wyeth, Henry Evans and Andy Goldsworthy, among many others.

Currently I find myself intrigued by the interplay of the elements of shape, line and texture as they are suggested in my observations of the natural world.  I do not seek to imitate or improve upon what nature offers but instead attempt to capture on paper a quality or gesture suggested by the world around me.  Some prints are the result of extended effort while others are almost spontaneous.  But the printmaking process is rarely dull, so for now I think I will continue and see what happens next.”
