Best of Show

The Audience chooses two pieces for “Best of Show” in FOCAL POINT:  A Photographic Exhibition.

.

The Siskiyou Arts Council Gallery & Cultural Center” celebrated the opening of its latest art exhibit, “FOCAL POINT:  A Photographic Exhibition”, on May 28. Those attending the opening voted “Opening” (photography on fabric) by Brenda Woods and “Untitled” (black and white photography) by Joseph Villasenor as BEST OF SHOW.

“I love the human body.  I love watching the human body in motion.  I am sometimes brought to tears of amazement when I see a dancer or a gymnast push the body to incredible limits.  “Opening” and other pieces in this series are my version of capturing the body in movement.  The subject is not only in a state of change, but so is the material she is printed on.  Walk by her and her body, captured in three layers, waves and flips from the slight breeze you the viewer have made with your movement, ” says artist Brenda Woods about her piece, “Opening”.

Joseph Villasenor had this to say, “There’s so much beauty in this world, I often find it hard to talk about. So I take pictures.

For this particular picture I was sitting on an adjacent couch watching my housemate sink into a nap after a hard day of gardening the day before. My attention was first caught by the cat, but then I noticed the extraordinary highlights in this backlit morning scene. I forced myself to grab my camera from my car and capture. Luckily the cat was still there. I then cropped the photo and slightly adjusted the color to better reflect the warmth of the scene.”

.

Congratulations to Joe and Brenda!

A hearty THANK YOU to all those who attended the opening and participated in voting.  If you haven’t already, come by and see the art, it is even better in person.
